The three gorges dam is located near the Town of Sandouping in the city of Yichang. It utilizes the power of the mighty Yangtze River to produce an astounding 22,500 MW of hydroelectric energy, a feat which has earned the dam the title of “The biggest dam of the world”. It is also one of the greatest projects since the people’s republic of China’s establishment. The project is undergoing many leader’s decision and consideration including Chairman Mao Zedong, Jiang Zemin and other great leaders of China.
The dam has made some significant impacts on China in general and the people living in the area in particular. Before the dam, the area was very dangerous because of the risk of flash floods. Major cities such as Shanghai, Wuhan and Nanjing were always in the danger of being flooded. The dam has been able to control floods efficiently.
This has even allowed people to start up industries and farms along the river without the fear of floods. Although a lot of people had to be relocated for the construction of the dam, in the end, it was all for the benefit of the people.
The three gorges dam in addition to being the biggest is also one of the most beautiful dams ever. The nearby location of the three gorges and the mighty Yangtze River add to the beauty of the dam. It is on the travel itinerary on almost all the tourists who wish to visit China. I had a similar feeling regarding the Dam and wanted to see it with my own eyes.
I grasped the chance as soon as I got it any the next thing I knew, I was in China, on my way to visit the biggest dam of the world. It’s a different feeling when you see this great dam under your own eyes and your own foot.
